Bye Bye Carly

Posted on April 23, 2008

I don’t understand the results of Idol tonight. How did Brook and Jason pass through this round with the lousy performances they gave last night. My faith in idol has been shaken. I think it might be rigged. (Both the David’s kicked ass last night, though!)

OK, here is my prediction for what its worth: David Cook and David Archuleta will be the final two. Unless, of course, the Earth really does start spinning off its axis, hell gets a little cooler, and pigs start taking flying lessons. (Was that too much? It felt like too much.)

Too tired to care about Idol.

Posted on April 17, 2008

With my sister being in town, I didn’t watch either Idol show until this morning. The only comment I have is I am glad Kristy Lee Cook is gone. Next on my “not a hit” list is Syesha Mercado. This is the second week in a row she was in the bottom three, so there’s hope.

Almost Right

Micheal Johns was eliminated! Brooke was the first one on the sofa, and Syesha was in the bottom 3. But other than that…I was right. I liked Michael Johns, but I am glad my girl Carly gets another chance to prove herself.

Truly Affected…

Posted on April 9, 2008

Sometimes, you get stuck in your day to day living. You’re so focused on getting the laundry done, the shopping, the cooking, making sure that your child is learning her ABC’s. Tonight, after watching “Idol Gives Back” I realized that all of my petty concerns and problems were insignificant when measured next to what is going on in our world. As commercial as it may be, American Idol has CHANGED LIVES through this charity program. It does exactly what it meant to do, slap those of us of privilege and remind us that that are so many out there that are surviving with much much less. I have to admit, I cried while watching some of the clips of the children in Africa suffering from AIDS. How did we get here? How do we get so wrapped up on whether our kid has the best toy or is the best dressed, when there are children out there that are just hoping they don’t have AIDS? I HOPE and I am pretty sure that Chloe will never have to live a life where she wonders where the next meal is coming from, needs a roof over her head, or needs health care. John and I will work hard so that she will never want for anything. But now I have to ask, is that enough? I think we need to also instill in her how lucky she is that she has been born into a family of relative privilege. Not only did this show remind me how lucky we are, but it reminded me that when Chloe is old enough, we need to help her understand how important it is to give back.

Because I don’t have anything better to do…

Posted on April 3, 2008

You can ask John, I totally predicted that Ramiele Malubay was the one to get the boot last night on American Idol. (Yes, he was forced to sit there and watch it with me. Later, if you get a chance, feel free to extend your sympathies.) Of all the performances Wednesday night, she was the only one that didn’t stand out in some way. I really wanted Kristy Lee Cook ousted, but it was Dolly Parton night and she is a country singer, so I was realistic. I have to say, David Cook is really blowing it out of the park. Every time he performs, I think “What is he doing on American Idol, he should be famous already!” Micheal John’s performance was stellar, as well, but he isn’t as consistently as good. I was a little worried for my girl, Carly Smithson, she did a “good” job, but when you get to this level of the competition, you have to do better than “good.” And poor Brook White is just slowly sliding. Actually, her perpetual perkiness is starting to grate on my nerves. I know the world is just enamored with David Archuleta, and he is a remarkable singer, I just don’t see him as “pop star” material. Now, Broadway…the boy was born to be on Broadway, for his huge voice and his emotional performances, he’d be a natural! And I have to admit, I still have the song he sung two weeks ago stuck in my head, and I had never heard it before. Lastly, I am honestly trying to figure out why Simon gets such a bad rap, I agree with what he says probably about 90% of the time!

Every vote counts!

Posted on March 27, 2008

Or whatever…when it comes to American Idol. Thank goodness Chikezie is gone, the boy was just weird! Next on my “vote off” list is Kristy Lee Cook, and its not because she’s country, although it certainly doesn’t help her cause. Its because she just doesn’t have anything unique about her. She sounds like every other female country singer out there. Although, I wouldn’t be heart broken if Syesha Mercado ends up on the chopping block next week…she just bores me. I am still rooting for Carly, but I have to admit that I voted for David Cook. His awesome rendition of Billy Jean totally rocked! (Throwing up my bloggers horns) I like Brooke White, also, but she needs to step it up. The last couple of weeks she seemed to be sliding a bit.

There’s my two cents worth, in case you were wondering.
