Santa: Take 1 and 2.

Posted on December 21, 2008

We took Chloe to Santa in Colorado. I don’t think she would have sat on his lap if her idol, Sabrina, wasn’t holding her hand. Unfortunately, the picture we got was kind of lousy.

So, being the kind of mom that feels the need to torture my child for the sake of a good photograph, tried again at the Long Street Farms, with Ellen’s crew.  We let them go first, so Chloe could see that Santa was a nice guy, then we put her on his lap.  Chloe refused to look or talk to him.  She had this look on her face the whole time like:  “i understand that this is important for me to sit here, but damn if I am actually going to acknowledge this Santa guy.”

The really sad thing is, this picture isn’t any better. We tortured her for nothing.  Sigh, just another thing she can tell her therapist about when she’s older.

Leaving home to go home.

Posted on July 9, 2008

Tomorrow, Chloe and I fly back to New Jersey.  After talking to Misty and Amy yesterday and how they actually miss New Jersey, I think I feel more and more like I have two homes.  I love Colorado, I have friends and I have family.  I have the comfort and the predictability of knowing where everything is and that I will always have someone to hang out with.  Its the warm blanket of the known.

Where as New Jersey is the adventure, and that definitely has a certain appeal.  Plus, I have friends who are becoming family.  I do love my house, and the area where we live.  I love how close we are to New York and Philadelphia, and that the ocean is only 45 minutes away.  I don’t always have something to do, and I don’t always have someone to hang out with, but we’re getting there.

John and I have talked a lot about whether we want to stay or go, this minute I am happy to stay in New Jersey, the next I will want to go.  Its confusing, and it makes it difficult sometimes for me to decide how much to committ to New Jersey.  At this point, I am back to embracing the adventure, and we will just have to see where we go from here.
