And your next American Idol is…

And my myth TV stopped recording. We sat there through all of the other acts, the terrible vocals, the forced and bizarre commercial exploits, and didn’t get to see the end. I know David Cook won, but I feel like it was very anticlimactic. I just really hope they have the end on line tomorrow…next year I am watching the finale live!

Home again, home again, jiggety jig.

Posted on May 21, 2008

We made it home with very little fan fair.  The airline was exceptionally helpful with getting through security, we were able to exchange our 5:10 pm flight with the 7:30 am flight my parents were on, and our flight was on time.  And, of course, Chloe was an angel (other than decorating the floor with raisins.)  All in all, my worry and stress was all for naught.  I really do hope that someday I will be able to take a moment and say, “I know everything is going to fine,” and actually mean it.  I will download the few pictures I did take of the trip and put them up in the gallery.

What should happen…

Posted on May 20, 2008

After many discussions with my mom and my sister (both American Idol fans) we have decided that this is what should happen tonight on the finale: David Archuleta should win because he is still a young and innocent kid who needs some direction with his musical career. David Cook should come in second since he is already an excellent musician and performer and should have more control over his career (which, as runner up on American Idol, he is practically guaranteed a record contract.) So it has been said, and so it shall be done! Tonight…vote for David! (just kidding, had to throw that joke in there.)

Pasty White Girl…

Posted on May 19, 2008

Yup, that’s me.  It’s really not fair.  My brother and my sister were blessed with my mom’s Italian skin.  All three of them can tan so dark that by the end of the summer it’s hard to recognize them.  I don’t tan, I freckle, and if I am not careful, I BURN.  Now, my poor daughter is also a pasty white girl.  Unfortunately, she has a double whammy because daddy is a pasty white boy as well with an almost perma-tan (freckles freckles everywhere!)  I am so careful with her skin.  If I even think we might be walking across a parking lot when the sun is out I douse her with sunblock, put a hat on her head, and make sure she has her sunglasses.  I am not so careful with myself.  Yesterday, my parents and I took my nieces and Chloe to a park.  We were there for maybe a half an hour, Chloe was slathered with sunblock and we tried to keep a hat from blowing off her head.  For some reason, I forgot to put sunblock on myself.  Needless to say, my pasty white skin is now more of a pinkish red.  Geeze, you’d really think that after all these years I would learn!

The plot thickens…

Posted on May 18, 2008

So, yeah, not only do I not have my driver’s license, but when John was looking for my passport (because, yes, he thought of that too) he couldn’t find that either. I have decided that I can no longer in good conscience write organization posts. In that last two months, I have forgotten my pin number to the ATM, discovered that I have been driving around with John’s insurance card in my car, and lost both my driver’s license and my passport. If I were really that organized I would have a plan for all of these occasions. For example, before leaving on a trip, I should xerox all the documents I may need in case something gets lost or stolen. I should make sure that if I take these important papers out for any reason, as soon as I have accomplished my purpose I need to make sure I put them back where they belong. And my hairdresser suggested making my pin number into a word and then using my cell phone to help me remember it. I can print a new insurance card off of the website, but I need to remember my password, which of course is different then the rest of my passwords. So, add to this list a password file of some sort so that I can keep track of all the freakin’ websites. All of these excellent suggestions in hindsight.

Our current plan to bring Chloe and me home: John overnighted my birth certificate and a certified copy of our wedding license, and my parents are going to get me a membership to Sam’s Club so that I have at least one piece of identification with my picture on it. I talked to the airline, and they said all of this would be sufficient proof of ID, especially since we are frequent fliers, and I had to get out here with some form of ID. So, wish me luck. I am really looking forward to teleporters, that can’t be that far into the future, right?
