Simplyfing Organization: Coupons

Posted on April 15, 2008

Coupons are an organizational nightmare. I used to work with a lady that would save hundreds of dollars every month clipping coupons and she had an elaborate file system. You know the one I am talking about: the accordion file you keep in your purse, separating your coupons out by subject such as desserts, cleaning products, etc. I tried this system, and I discovered that it became time consuming and cumbersome. Not to mention that a majority of coupons I saw in the paper were for things I had absolutely no interest in. I made the decision that clipping coupons was not worth the energy, and the money I saved did not pay for my time.

However, I do believe that coupons are a useful way to save a few extra dollars, so I only keep the coupons I get in the mail that I know I might use. The big ones are: Bed bath and beyond and coupons for oil changes or car service. I will occasionally keep coupons for restaurants, especially if they are attached to a menu. I have a slot in my desk for these coupons, and once a month I go through and discard any that are out of date. I wouldn’t say I save a whole lot of money this way, but I do save a lot of time.

The Chloe is in the mail…

When you’re a toddler, everything is a hat. She called this one her “Birthday hat.”

“Dinosaurs are Big”

Chloe exclaimed over, and over, and over again while we were at the American Museum of Natural History in New York.

However, her favorite activity was to go up and down, and up and down, and up and down the stairs. Wee, fun!

We all enjoyed the ocean life room, especially the GIGANTIC whale hanging from the ceiling.

Who predicted this? Let’s see a show of hands…

Chloe was running around naked after her bath this evening, and I heard her exclaim with glee, “Mommy, Puddle!” I looked down and sure enough, there was a puddle, because she had peed on the floor. Oh well, I am just glad we have hard wood floors.

Couldn’t help myself…

Its just too damn cute! Chloe loves to run around naked after her bath. She excitedly yells, “I’m runnin’ naked!” And, yes, I might have taught her that. I didn’t mean to. I just kept saying, “You’re so silly, you’re running naked!” And apparently, like so many other things I regret, she picked it up. And, also yes, I plan on showing this picture to her prom date right before prom. It’s really the best reason to take naked baby pictures.

What would your superpower be?

Posted on April 11, 2008

I love superheros. I have always loved superheros, but when I was a kid I thought it would be cool to be super strong, like “Buffy” or be able fly like “Superman.” I thought of all the spells I would cast if I could be a witch like those on Charmed, and how cool it would be to be able to see through walls. Now that I am a “grown up” (as if) my ideal superpowers have changed. And I am trying to decide, if I could only choose one, what it would be. Here are my choices:

1) Bottomless Pit Woman-I can eat anything and everything without gaining any weight.

2) Mind Control woman-I can control not only objects but other beings with my mind, so I can sit on the couch and do the dishes, the laundry, clean the house and keep my cats from destroying Chloe’s toys.

3) Mrs. Know it all- I would always know the right way to handle ANY situation, so I would never feel stupid or socially awkward again.

4) Mind Reader-different from mind control, this power would allow me to know what my toddler wants when she is screaming at me and talking incoherently (of course, that only works if her thoughts are coherent, and there is only one way to find out!)

Now, if we could combine all these abilities, that would be best. Then you could just call me “Super Mom” without the irony. Sigh, that would be sweet!
