Auntie Karen’s Visit

Auntie Karen came to visit last week and we had a LOT of fun. We had a very patriotic tour! We went to Philadelphia and saw the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, as well as other historic sites.
On Sunday, we took the ferry to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. Chloe had a blast walking around Ellis Island, but I am not sure she got the historical significance. I guess we’ll keep working on that.
The Statue of Liberty is beautiful, but extremely crowded! They instituted these crazy security measures which made the line to get into the statue extremely long and SLOW. It is difficult to entertain a toddler (who only wants to walk) for an hour in line. We couldn’t go up to the crown because of security, but we had a great view of Manhattan from the top of the base.
Other than being bored in line, Chloe did an amazing job considering the heat and the fact that she didn’t get a very long nap.
On Monday, we went to Chloe’s new music class at Gymboree, then took Auntie Karen to the beach. We walked along the board walk and had amazing seafood at an ocean side restaurant.
Tuesday was a mellow day, with a temperature of 90 degrees, we decided it was best not to spend a whole lot of time outside. We had to make a run to baby’s ‘r us to look at baby gates after Chloe demonstrated to us that she now knows how to climb stairs! As a crowning touch on the day, an old tree across the street decided that it had had enough, and quite dramatically, collapsed in the middle of our street. The tree hit all the wires attached to our house, took out two power poles, blocked us in our driveway, and tore our satellite out of our wall. We lost power for about an hour (in 90 degree heat…the house was a little toasty) and we lost our tv for two days and our internet until yesterday.
Luckily, they cleaned up the tree immediately and we were able to get out of our driveway on Wednesday. We went to the aquarium and then dropped Auntie Karen off at the airport. It was a great trip! Thanks for visiting, Auntie Karen!
