Update on the Stokes House

Posted on August 9, 2006

Our attorney assures us that by the end of today we will be out of attorney review.  Basically, attorney review is where the lawyers for both us and the sellers look over our contract that states that we will purchase thier house.  Now that we are out of attorney review, the house will be considered “under contract.”

We also had the inspections and the appraisal today.  I barely spoke to the appraiser, (the real estate lady, Karen, stayed with her) but the inspector was quite chatty.  It looks like the current owners did a wonderful job renovating the house.  All of the appliances are new, the roof is new, the plumbing upstairs is new, and the heater is new.  The current owners are also the most anal record keepers I have ever met.  They have every receipt, manual, and document for everything they have done to the house.

The next step is for John and I to look over the inspection report and decide if we want them to fix any of the minor issues the inspector did point out.  As far as I can tell, everything is coasting along smoothly.

We also recieved our closing packet for our house in Colorado, so we’ll be looking over that and sending that on.  It looks like this might be the easiest close in history.  The people buying our house didn’t want us to fix anything, and financing seems to be going along smoothly.  We are on schedule to close on the 18th of this month.  This will obviously be a huge relief for John and I, considering the money to buy the new house is coming out of this sell.

Chloe is still as adorable as ever.  She just recently started noticing the bubbles at Gymboree, so I bought some bubble juice.  Legolas also likes the bubbles.  Please view our gallery for more pictures of the stokes house and pictures of us playing with bubbles.

Taking Over the Blog

Posted on August 4, 2006

Hello everyone. John and I decided since I have a little bit more time on my hands these days that I would update the blog…so here it goes:

We accepted an offer on our house in Denver and if everything goes according to plan, we will close on August 18th. We found a beautiful, old colonial house in Freehold, New Jersey, and are currently in “attorney review.” Buying a house in New Jersey is an extremely different and LONG process. For one thing, instead of working through a title company, you go through a lawyer. So, we won’t be able to close on our new house until September 15th. Add to this, we lose our temporary housing provided by Vonage on August 25th. Sooo….

Chloe and I are returning to Denver! We will be flying in on August 24th, and I am trying to get a flight for either the September 14th if we decide I need to be there for closing or September 16th if I don’t. I look forward to seeing everyone, but it will be hard to be away from John for almost another month. John, Legolas and Arwen will be moving in with our extremely kind and understanding friends, Dan and Ellen. It will truly be a full house! They have three children and three cats of their own!

On the Chloe front: Yesterday was her three month birthday, and we are getting closer and closer to her sleeping through the night! Its not consistent, but we have had a couple of evenings where she went to bed at 8:00pm and slept until 5:30am. (Of course, 5 am is an extremely early morning for mommy, but at this point I’m not complaining!) She is developing good hand-eye coordination and is able to reach out and grab a toy. She’s also discovered her feet, although she really only notices them when I have fun socks on her and she is sitting up. Her favorite toys are still her hands. She’s growing like a weed, I keep finding more and more outfits she’s outgrown.

I will post the latest pictures in the gallery, so make sure you stop by. In the New Jersey section I will include the pictures from the Monmouth County Fair. Chloe and I enjoyed the fair with Ellen, Simon and Hannah last Thursday. It was a lot of fun, they had lumberjack competitions, barrel races, a free petting zoo, carnival rides and games, clowns, and a magician. Unfortunately, it was also 90+ degrees, so we didn’t stay very long.

We have our new house inspection on Wednesday of next week, we will keep you updated!
